Burial place of English King Henry II, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, their son Richard Coeur de Lion (Richard the Lion Heart) and the second wife of King John I of England, Isabelle d’Angoulême. A total of fifteen Plantagenets are buried at Fontevraud along with the hearts of King John I and his son Henry III. It is well worth allowing at least half a day to see it properly. Parking is easy. Off the D947, 12 km Southeast of Saumur, the abbey is easy to find and is well signposted from motorways and secondary roads.
