Mulhouse is an old city mentioned as far back as 803. It was under Swiss rule from 1515 to 1648 and then an independent republic until 1798 when it's inhabitants voted to become part of France. Today, it is home to the Peugeot factory and other vital industries. It also has a massive learning complex which includes a University, centres for research and a number of technical colleges.
